Amazing Animals Production
This production was for my Design Thinking class for the fall semester of 2021. For this project we chose an animal that fascinated each of us that would be appropriate for our format and four types of illustrations. These four illustrations are: realistic encyclopedia illustration, transformation, logo, and essence.
Realistic Encyclopedia Illustration
Using a photo reference from Unsplash (https://unsplash.com/photos/BNR4sS2LA10?utm_source=unsplash&utm_medium=referral&utm_content=creditShareLink) I began with the realistic encyclopedia illustration by using tracing paper and copying the image over to a sketch book with graphite.

Transformation Illustration
In order to pin point the best idea, I started by brainstorming references or things that could be associated with a fox. Some things that came to my mind were cunning, smart, and royalty. After brainstorming I was ready to start putting my ideas down on paper. Using tracing paper, I copied the form of my fox then transformed it based on my brainstorms. Here are some of the brainstorm illustrations as well as the final result.

Logo
For the logo I made 18 illustrations on tracing paper used sharpie and micron pen. While staying faithful to the form and original concept of a fox, I experimented with knockout, overlap, line, contrast, gestalt and many other design principles. Then using the best illustration, I put it into Illustrator and vectorized the logo.

Essence
To capture the bare essentials "essence" of our animals we made 20 fast-paced illustrations. Working fast prompts only the essential details to come out of the illustration. Some of these designs were made in 30 seconds or less with some taking two minutes. I also experimented with a large variety of tools like brushes, ink, watercolor, black paint, pens, charcoal, and crayons. "Splats, drips and happy accidents are all part of the process."
